Linseed oil is obtained from the seed of the flax plant Linum usitatissimum and is currently sourced from Kazakhstan and Canada. Boiled linseed oils have low viscosity and excellent film forming properties which make them a good choice for surface coating applications such as timber treatments and quick drying primer paints. They can be applied directly to wood or steel or diluted and used as a waterproof coating for brickwork, concrete and terracotta tiles. Other applications include paper manufacture and as an ingredient in putties.
