- Primary and secondary emulsifiers: expertise to deliver innovative surfactants for use in the development and manufacture of water-soluble polymers (WSP).
- Polymeric stabilisers: tailored, specialised surfactants to improve emulsion stability and give smaller, more consistent particle size under high sheer and high temperature conditions.
- NPE free inverters: offering fast and complete inversion. Our range provides alternative chemistries to the traditionally used alkyl phenol ethoxylates to allow for high efficiency inversion and to overcome challenging conditions.
- Inverse emulsion polymerisation: Croda provides primary emulsifiers (Span™ and Tween™), polymeric stabilisers (Hypermer™) and inverters (Synperonic™, Brij™ and Natsurf™) to polyacrylamide manufacturers utilising inverse emulsion polymerisation.
- Paper manufacturing: Croda’s Hypermer surfactants help paper producers to manufacture more thermally stable retention aids, whilst our Synperonic EO/PO block polymers, with FDA and BfR clearances, help to formulate and optimise defoamer packages.
- Hydraulic fracturing: Croda provides special inverters for polyacrylamide friction reducers, suitable for processing high total dissolved solids (TDS) in water.

NPE free inverters
Croda also offers a range of NPE free inverters (breakers) for inverse emulsion polymers. Alkyl phenol ethoxylates have traditionally been used as inverters but Croda offers a range of alternative chemistries. Croda’s NPE free inverters offer fast and complete inversion in combination with Hypermer’s and high efficiency.
Synperonic defoamers
Selecting the most effective defoamer for a specific application can be difficult as they are used in such a wide variety of applications, there isn’t one defoamer that is suitable to all. The products used in industry applications can be split into three categories: silicone based, oil based and EO/PO copolymer defoamers. Although only EO/PO copolymer defoamers are mentioned in this section, Croda manufactures high quality speciality components of defoamer formulations under the Crodamide™, Span, Tween, Crodafos™ and Brij trade names.
